Longevity Training + A Few Big Updates
Everyone seems to be talking about “longevity training” right now.
Depending on who you ask, it can sound like a special protocol, a new certification, or some hidden formula for avoiding injury forever.
In reality, longevity training is much simpler than that.
It’s just training in a way that allows you to keep training for a long time.
Which usually comes down to a handful of practical things:
Train consistently.
Not perfectly. Consistently. The biggest predictor of long-term results is simply continuing to train. And then not stopping…
Build and maintain strength.
Strength (and power) remains one of the absolute best predictors of long-term health, independence, and resilience as we age. This is why it’s the backbone of our training protocols here.
Manage load intelligently.
Push hard when life allows it. Pull back when stress, sleep, or recovery says otherwise. We use principles of smart load management in our small group training and it’s baked into every 1:1 client training program.
Adjust training as life changes.
Careers shift. Kids arrive. Injuries happen. Your training should evolve with you.
Keep things challenging enough to matter.
Longevity isn’t about staying comfortable forever. Progress still requires effort to drive the changes you want to see and keep in your body.
Choose training you can actually stick with.
This is critical! Some days you’ll look forward to training. Some days you won’t. The goal is building a system that keeps you showing up anyway.
There isn’t a magical exercise that guarantees injury prevention or a secret longevity routine. And quite frankly, injury rates for weight training are some of the lowest imaginable for any activity. It’s controlled with almost every variable, even when some of the training calls for degrees of unpredictability.
Make sure there is thoughtful programming, good load management, and an environment that makes it easier to keep going for years.
That’s the kind of training we aim for here.
If you have questions about what may help you train for the long-haul, we love those conversations.
